Well, the fun begins! I am attempting to change my name! Our marriage license arrived in the mail last week, so I figured I’d start the madness! I thought I’d take my lunch hour last Thursday to head over to the Social Security office to get that changed first. Well, going on my lunch was probably not the best idea. I walked in, and took a number and was about to sit down when they called my number! Wow- fast service… so I thought. So I got up to the counter, and they asked what I wanted to do. I explained, and showed my already filled out paperwork. They typed a couple things in the computer, and said they’d call me up in about a half hour by my maiden name. Cool. So I sat down… and waited. A half hour passed… an hour passed. I called my co-worker and told her the situation. She said that it wasn’t too horribly busy, and I said I’d call back or come back in 15 min. About 5 min later, they called my name, and within 5 minutes the whole process was over. Why they couldn’t have done that in the first place, I do not know. Anyway, they gave me my receipt and sent me on my way saying I should get my new card in 2 weeks.
Today’s exciting event is the DMV! I made an appointment this time, since I didn’t fair so well being a walk-in at the SS office. Once that is done, it’s off to the bank to merge the account, and change my name on the checks and ATM card! Then I get to make a million phone calls and change my name on everything else! Whee isn’t this fun!? So now when I sign my name I have to think… “what’s my name again?”
But the party should be fun, and it will probably give me some good ideas for how to do my engagement/wedding/honeymoon albums. I’m still so behind with all of that, but hopefully soon I will be able to have things so organized that I can start doing the fun stuff!
