Visit with Santa

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 12:45 am

Today Jordan and I headed to the mall to get her picture taken with Santa. Last year Jordan loved visiting with Santa. She smiled, and looked up at him, and had a grand old time. She even visited with him twice!

This year, however was a VERY different story. I could tell you about it, but a picture is worth a thousand words:

I felt bad, so I decided to take a photo with her to help her feel more comfortable. No smiles, but at least she’s not screaming!

I took some other pics, but I haven’t gotten them off the camera yet. I will upload them eventually! :)

First trip to the zoo!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 12:55 am

Jordan went on her first trip to the zoo on Wednesday. It was quite a fun trip! Jordan still remembers it, I think, and talks about animals quite often. She could do the sign, say the name of, or make the sound for almost every animal we saw. It was really cute to see her watch the orangutans, all the while saying “monkey” and “oo oo oo!” We didn’t get many pictures, but I did manage to snap some of the animals we saw. They aren’t up on the site yet, but that will come soon. Anyway, we went to the LA zoo (that I didn’t even realize existed) with my good friend Yumi. It was fun, but quite a work out. There were lots of hills, and one of the animals Jordan is obsessed with right now was the farthest away. She loves hippos probably mainly because of the trick that Tracy taught her back during pumpkin carving night. She frequently opens her mouth as WIDE as she possibly can, and then says “EE poh” which is her way of saying hippo. So cute. I have to try and get it on tape at some point. Another thing I want to video is her singing and dancing. She now attempts to sing at least 3 different songs. “Itsy Bitsy Spider”, “Row Row Row Your Boat”, and “Rock-a-Bye Baby”. She doesn’t get all the words out, but she does motions to most of them, and gets at least a couple words here and there. Tonight she had Mike and I in stitches when we were listening to a CD of the Big Phat Band (Big Band music). She picked up a throw pillow that’s a Gingerbread Man (almost as big as she is) and she was dancing with it, twirling around in a circle, and twisting it around. So cute. Anyway, I must get to bed- work tomorrow- whee!

It’s December already!!!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 9:13 pm

I can’t believe how quickly November went by!! Yikes! We leave for Kentucky 3 weeks from Monday! I haven’t even really thought about what we’re going to bring with us, and we’re staying for 2 weeks! We’ll be staying part of the time at my brother’s house in Lexington, and also some time at my grandmother’s house in Louisville. It should be a fun trip, if I can just get myself organized to actually get there!
Well, let’s see- what’s been going on here? My folks were down here for Thanksgiving which was very much fun. I baked my first honey pumpkin pie, which happened to be my first pie baking experience ever. I forgot to take pictures of it, but it actually turned out quite good! I also “cooked” the whole meal, which consisted of canned green beans, turkey that I heated from the Honeybaked ham store, a box of stove top stuffing, mashed potatoes from potato buds, crescent rolls from a can, canned gravy, a corn casserole which I made from scratch, and yam casserole which I also made (from canned yams, but hey, I made the casserole!), and then the pie for dessert. I also made chocolate chip pumpkin muffins from scratch. Jordan had a good time visiting with “Gigi and G-pa”, or “Papa” as she has been saying lately. Though yesterday I’m pretty sure she actually said “G-pa”.
Lately we’ve been working on the family members names since we’ll be seeing them soon. She now can say Clifton “Ciffon”, though sometimes she says “Mimi”, and I don’t know where that came from. She says Geen “Gee”, Margaret “Mar-et”, Emery “Emmy”, and Mallory “Mah-ry”. I assume by the end of her trip to Kentucky we will also add Oreo, Lucy and Presto to the list (My brother’s cats). She can identify our cats and rabbit as well. She can say “Boo”, Spats “Sats”, Midnight “Mee nigh”, and Stormy “Soory”, though she doesn’t always correctly identify them, but then again, neither do I! That’s what happens when you have an all black cat, and another that’s mostly black with some white.
On Monday night I started feeling like I was getting sick with a sore throat, and by Tuesday morning I was feeling awful. I called in to work on Tuesday night, and stayed in all day, then Wednesday woke up with a CRAZY sore throat, and thought I might have strep, so I saw the Dr., and sure enough! I’ve been on meds since Wednesday, and I haven’t been out of the house since Wed night. I decided to go to the Master’s College Christmas concert since we had already paid for our tickets, even though I had strep. After 2 rounds of the meds I was feeling a lot better, which unfortunately didn’t last. I stayed home from work on Thursday, and didn’t go to the work Christmas party on Friday night, and then decided to call in today, too, just to be sure I got better. I’ll be returning to work on Tuesday, and will work 3 weeks, then have 2 weeks off for Christmas.
Anyway, I’m going to upload all the pics, and will try to highlight a few on here once they are up!

Jordan’s 15 month check up

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 8:12 pm

Jordan had her 15 month check up this morning, and she did really well. She whimpered a bit when they first laid her down to get her height, but then did fine for the weight and head circumference. So here are the stats: Head circumference- 18 inches, which is the 70th percentile. Height- 30 1/2 inches, which is the 70th percentile. I think that it might have been slightly wrong. I think she’s a bit shorter than that. Weight- 19 pounds, 13 1/2 ounces, which is the 7th percentile. Yikes! The doctor’s not too worried about it, but has told me to try to get her on whole milk. She said she should be drinking 24 ounces a day of whole milk. So far the few sips Jordan has actually had, she has promptly spit out. I’ve tried new cups, old cups, different types of cups, mixing it with breast milk, only giving her breast milk from a special cup, and so far nothing has worked. The doctor suggested Lactaid which is sweeter, like breast milk, so we shall see if she’ll drink any of that. I’m also supposed to try to get her to eat at least a serving of yogurt a day. That won’t be a problem, as she loves yogurt! She eats every type of yogurt, and every flavor of yogurt so far! I said she eats lots of cheese, but the doctor said that she needs the calcium from milk and yogurt. I guess cheese doesn’t have as much calcium. Anyway, this trip Jordan didn’t cry at all while the doctor was in the room (a welcome change from her 12 month appointment!), and I think it helped that we brought Tigger with us, and Dr. Lee checked Tigger first, then Jordan. She didn’t even cry when she checked her ears! I believe Tigger needs to come with us to every appointment from now on!! Oh- and a new trick that my friend Tracy taught her during pumpkin carving came in handy today! Tracy asked Jordan what a hippo says, and told her that a hippo says *open mouth really wide*. So today when we needed to look in her mouth, I asked Jordan what a hippo says, and she opened her mouth really wide! Which also let us see that her top molars are almost in. One has broken through- the one on the top left, and the one on the top right is close, if it hasn’t broken through already. It was hard to tell. The bottom ones are still in the gum completely, but there are bumps. Anyway, the only other thing is that Jordan has a stye on her right eyelid. Doctor wasn’t concerned, I just need to do hot compresses, as much as Jordan will allow it. Fun! So anyway, that’s the news from here!

Halloween pictures are finally up!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 10:33 am

I got all the Halloween pictures all up on the site this morning. There are a LOT of them, so I’m not going to post highlights here, you can just check them out in the gallery! :)
There are some from Oct 29, Oct 30, Halloween itself, and November 1. I didn’t get a picture of her on the 3rd at 15 months, but I will have to do that today. I can’t believe she’s already 15 months! We’re going to be trying out Level 4 on Tuesday to see how she does in there. Level 4 starts at 16 months, but I really think she’s ready for a change of pace in her class. She also has her 15 month appointment today, so we’ll get to find out how much she weighs and how tall she is now! I’ll be sure to update after the appointment!

New signs and words

Filed under: Baby Signs, General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 2:33 pm

Jordan continues to amaze me with how many signs and words she learns on a day to day basis! Here are some of the latest signs: Please (and she uses it correctly now!, Thank you, Up, Pumpkin, Open, Gentle, and Chicken. chicken isn’t really the real sign (I don’t know what it is), but she moves her arms like in the chicken dance while saying “bock bock”, or more like “bah bah”. Her new words are: Book, That, Down, Bye Bye, and Apple. It’s getting rather hard to keep up with all these new things!

Pumpkin parties abound!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 8:07 pm

We have been quite busy the past couple of days with parties! We had 2 yesterday and one the day before! Whew! On Saturday I worked my regular shift, and then we had our Pumpkin Patch Party at Gymboree, and I worked that as well. Jordan and Mike were able to come, and it was fun, though a bit on the crazy side. Not sure what I think about parties there. The attendees seemed to have a lot of fun, though I was a bit frazzled, being on the other side, and I didn’t get to enjoy Jordan much, since I was the “photographer” as well as working the back room. I got 2 pictures of Jordan the whole time. :S But here they are!

Then yesterday after Jordan decided once again to not sleep Saturday night after I worked all day, we had 2 more parties to attend. First was a birthday party for one of Mike’s friends. We didn’t get any pictures there, but we did manage to stay long enough to enjoy some yummy Chinese food, and meet Mike’s buddies, and show off Jordan, of course. :)
Last night was Randy’s 4th Annual Pumpkin Carving Night, which was quite fun! We met up with the gang, though a bit late, at the pumpkin patch. Jordan greatly enjoyed meeting the animals in the petting zoo. She pet quite a few sheep, a pony, and met a turtle, 2 bunnies, a bunch of chicks, a hen, and quite a few turkeys!

She wandered around the pumpkin patch, though she didn’t choose her pumpkin, since she was way more into chasing the turkeys around. But we snapped some cute pictures, and managed to get quite a bit of video. Here is the family with the pumpkins we chose:

And here’s a cute one of Jordan with our pumpkins. Yes, that is her pumpkin, and no we did not try to carve it!

After the fun at the patch, we headed over to Randy’s for the carving extravaganza!

Here is the end result:

And here’s my Mickey Mouse pumpkin, and Mike’s dragon pumpkin:

There will be more photos when I get the ones from the other people who took pictures. My camera didn’t take very good pictures without the flash, and with the flash it was hard to see all the designs.
This week we have 1 more party- on Halloween we are heading to Disneyland for Mickey’s Halloween Treat! That should be a lot of fun!

New Words and Signs

Filed under: Baby Signs, General, Jordan Aleene — mayzaboo @ 12:35 am

This post will be a quick one. I just wanted to record Jordan’s new words and signs:
Words: Ball, Doll, Bra (Don’t ask), Jordan (Joh-doh), Moe (from the Doodlebops, and she doesn’t even watch it very often), Jo-Jo (more like “Doh-Doh”, again from Playhouse Disney “Feelin’ Good with Jo-Jo”) Boo (and she recognizes it in books spelled out.)

Sounds: “BAA” for a sheep

Signs: Mouse, Car(her own sign), Please (but she doesn’t know how to use it yet)

Recognize the shirt she’s wearing? She actually wore it last year, and I thought it would never fit her this year! (It’s size 6-9 months, and it’s a bit tight this year, but still wearable!)

And finally, pictures taken this morning!
October 19, 2007
Jordan today was sitting up on the couch, and pointed to the container of puffs as if to ask if she could have some, so I said, “Sure, you can have some puffs!” So she picks up the container off the table, pops the lid off, and starts munching! Surprisingly enough, none spilled, and when she was done, she snapped the lid back on, and handed me the container. And there were still puffs inside! What a big girl she’s getting to be!!

This is her “mmm” face. And yes, she was saying “Mmm” at the time.
