Photos and goings-on

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 10:04 pm

I have so many photos that I need to upload, but I just haven’t done it yet. I’m downloading the newest version of Gallery Remote (which is how I upload my photos) so that I can get that done. I had a problem with it last week I think it was, and my brother (also my webmaster) got it fixed for me. Now it’s up to me to actually download and install the latest program! :) Anyway, I can’t even remember what all the pics are of, though I know there are some from our Disneyland trip that Jordan and I took last Monday. We’re going again this Wednesday with a bunch of people from Gymboree, providing they can all go! :) Jordan and I also were able to go over to Erin and Christopher’s house this past week and meet baby Casey. Dummy me forgot to take any pics of him, or of Jordan and Christopher playing, though Erin did get some. We got to play in the backyard for a bit, feed the chickens and the GIANT fish, and even collect some eggs from the chicken, and we got to bring some home with us, too! (eggs, not chickens :) ) We had a good time, and it was great to see Erin again. I hadn’t seen her for a couple of months. Anyway, the latest news here is that both Mike and I have plans to start a fitness routine tomorrow. He’s doing P90X, and I’m going to start doing Pilates. We took the embarrassing “before” pics today, and measured/weighed. Well, I didn’t measure anything yet, but I might before I start working out tomorrow. Anyway, we shall see how we feel by Jordan’s birthday- Mike’s program will last 90 days, and mine is supposed to be 10 weeks, but I’m not doing the diet portion of it, so I may not get the results that quickly.
In Jordan news, we’ve had a set-back with potty training, though I’m hoping to really get back into it the week after next. I’m planning on staying around the house for most of each day that week, except for when I have to work, and I’m going to try to get her into the cloth training pants, or maybe underwear if I’m brave enough. Tonight she was getting ready for her bath, and I got her pull-up off, but didn’t tell her to sit on the potty, and she wet on the floor, but the good news is she said “oopsie” as soon as she did it. I had her sit on the potty after that, and I cleaned it up while telling her she needs to do that in the potty, but I didn’t make a huge deal about it. In other “Jordan” news, she can almost count to 10- she sometimes gets stuck at 2, but if I say “three” then she will go on through 10. And she can recognize a 7. Don’t know why that’s the only number so far, but hey- it’s something! She also can almost sing her ABC’s, and recognizes and correctly identifies almost all of them at one time or another. She gets tired of naming letters after about 13 so it’s hard to do it in one sitting, but she will identify them out of order until she gets tired of it. She also finally knows her colors, and is getting better about her shapes. She always knows circle, but sometimes confuses square and triangle. As for any other shape, she doesn’t seem to know they exist, aside from star and heart which she knows as well. She’s learning more and more signs the more we watch Signing Time, and is now starting to sing a lot more songs. She loves the music class at Gymboree, and loves her teacher Megan. The other day I was trying to figure out what she was singing, and it was a song that we had sung over a week ago in music class. We’ve also learned from that class that Jordan really enjoys Polka music. She also greatly enjoys dancing. Mainly her dance consists of twirling in a circle until she is so dizzy she can’t stand up. Occasionally, though it’s rocking from side to side while lifting up her legs as high as she can. I’m hoping to get her into ballet classes when she turns 2, because I really think she’d enjoy it. I’ve also thought about swimming lessons for the summer, but I haven’t priced that yet.
In “crafty” news, I found a new crochet pattern that I’ve been working on since Friday, and have completed 2 versions of it thus far. Jordan enjoyed it so much that I had to make her a smaller version of it. I’m speaking in code as the recipient of the first version reads this blog, and I don’t want them to know what I’m up to! ;) But I took pictures of it today, and will post them later after the item has been gifted! :) Now I’m making one for myself, too.
Well, I think that about covers all that’s been going on here! :)

I think I have an addiction…

Filed under: General, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 11:17 am

I just went through all my craft projects and photographed them all. And I believe I do have an addiction…
These are the projects I haven’t started yet:
craftprojects/100_1948.jpg
These are projects that have been started, but not yet completed:
Needlepoint cat pillow I bought while pregnant with Jordan, counted cross stitch “Starry Night” I bought in the summer of 1998, stamped cross stitch baby quilt that Geen started and I’m trying to finish
craftprojects/100_1951.jpg craftprojects/100_1952.jpg craftprojects/100_1964.jpg
Stamped and counted cross stitch kits I inherited from my mom and Geen
craftprojects/100_1966.jpg craftprojects/100_1968.jpg craftprojects/100_1969.jpg craftprojects/100_1970.jpg craftprojects/100_1972.jpg
Jordan’s birth sampler that my mom bought for me a few days before Jordan was born. This is the one I’m actually working on right now.
craftprojects/100_2019.jpg
Latch hook Eeyore I bought when I was pregnant with Jordan, or she was newborn, I can’t remember.
craftprojects/100_2005.jpg
3-D Latch Hook Duck I bought on sale after Christmas in Ky.
craftprojects/100_2010.jpg craftprojects/100_2008.jpg
Pixel blanket for Mike
craftprojects/100_2011.jpg
I guess the good news is that I do actually finish projects. Here are some that have been completed recently:
Crochet hats that I was trying out- one’s a Rastafarian hat, and the other are more like baseball cap style.
completecrochet/100_1974.jpg
My first beading project (unless you count the beaded fringe I made for the hem of a ballroom costume)
craftprojects/100_1979.jpg
My first attempt at punch needle
craftprojects/100_1983.jpg craftprojects/100_1985.jpg

craftprojects/100_1991.jpg craftprojects/100_1993.jpg craftprojects/100_1994.jpg
So yes, I have a problem. But I love doing crafts! I’m also thinking about making a crochet blanket for Jordan’s big girl room with butterflies on it. And my mom is going to hire me to make some blankets for their house as well. I love doing these things, and I think I thrive on having multiple projects at the same time. I like to be able to switch between different types of projects- cross stitch, latch hook, needlepoint, crochet, etc. It’s fun. :) So there’s a window into the craziness that is me! :)

Latest crochet project

Filed under: General, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 8:17 pm

I have been working on a birhtday present for a friend of Jordan’s the past few days, and I got it finished today! One of our Gymboree friends, Preston is having a birthday party this Saturday, and the theme is trains. So I looked all over for a free crochet pattern for a train. I couldn’t find one, so I made it up myself. It’s not the “prettiest” thing I’ve ever made, but as a child’s toy, I think it will be fine. I also made the connections between the trains with buttons, so it can come apart in 3 separate cars.

A Princess Party!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 11:16 pm

My friend Veronica’s daughter turned 3 yesterday and we were able to attend her party this afternoon. Jordan was the youngest in attendance, but she still had fun anyway. I think her favorite part was the coloring table. It was a princess theme, and they were to dress as their favorite princess. I contemplated getting Jordan a Disney princess dress (most likely Belle from Beauty and the Beast) until I saw the pricetag when we went to Disneyland on Monday- $65! We had gotten a hand-me-down princess dress from a friend of my mom, so we decided to use that one. :) I hemmed it by about 4 inches last night (with packing tape no less!) and decided to crochet her a “pea” so she could be the princess and the pea. This is the only picture I got of the pea:

This was the table for cupcake time:

And Jordan greatly enjoying her icing:

And here is Hannah, the birthday girl with Jordan:

I’m not sure what they are looking at, but it’s a cute photo anyway! :) The party was so fun! Jordan’s first “big girl party!” We also got to hang out with Veronica and Hannah after the party and had dinner together at McDonald’s. Yum yum! It was quite a fun day! There are more pics of the party on the gallery!

Pictures, Pictures, and More Pictures!!

Filed under: General, Jordan Aleene, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 12:53 am

I have finally finished the HUGE task of getting all the photos from the past 2 months uploaded, and label/organized. Not every photo has a caption, but most of them are fairly self explanatory. There are a BUNCH of photos, and 2 new albums: December 2007, and January 2008. Check them out when you have a chance, and I promise to keep up better with the pictures for the rest of this year! :)
In other news, I’ve been doing a lot of “crafty” things these days. I can’t seem to stick with one project for very long, so I have about a million started right now. The ones I’m mainly working on are: Counted Cross stitch birth sampler for Jordan, Latch hook duck (3D!) for Jordan, Latch hook Eeyore- LARGE flat picture for Jordan, counted cross stitch sampler of Van Gogh’s Starry Night for me, and a “pixel” blanket for Mike of the Black Mage from Final Fantasy. My recently completed projects include a hat for me, 3 hats for Jordan, hats for Tyler, Merrigan, and Christopher, a water bottle holder for Jordan, a punch needle small picture for our bedroom, a cross stitch wedding sampler for Mike and me, a crocheted penguin for Jordan, and one for my grandmother, and I think that’s it. Oh, I also made a large blanket for my parents for Christmas, and 2 smaller blankets for my niece and nephew for Christmas as well. At least I do finish some projects! :) Here’s a few of those projects:
Penguins- Jordan’s is on the left, Geen’s is on the right

Hats- Mine and one of Jordan’s, and Tyler’s USC hat:

Doesn’t Follow Directions Well

Filed under: General, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 1:15 pm

And I’m talking about me, not Jordan!
So a few days ago I posted my lovely first attempt at knitting- the fish. The second attempt was supposed to be a ball, and it ended up looking more like a taco. Then I tried to teach myself how to knit in the round with 4 needles so I could try to make a “Bob” Well, Jordan has taken my 4th needle, and I can’t find it. So I still haven’t knit anything else. Then I started looking online for free crochet patterns for toys, and found a really cute snake pattern that called for the same yarn that I had just bought (camouflage yarn- how cool is that?) so I thought I’d try it. I made it 2 steps into the pattern, and gave up. I decided to create my own pattern. Here is what I ended up with:
completecrochet/100_0488.jpg completecrochet/100_0496.jpg
I’m pretty proud of myself, especially since I’ve never made anything 3D until this! (Unless you count hats) Jordan seems to enjoy him as well. We still need to name him. I found another free pattern for a teddy bear and about 4 different patterns for clothes. We’ll see if I can follow those directions. :)

Starting a new hobby!

Filed under: General, craft projects — mayzaboo @ 11:47 pm

My friend Stephanie posted a picture of a really cute pattern for knitting the other day, and that has inspired me to learn how to knit! So last night I pulled out a kit I had purchased a while back, and went to work. The result?

The fish:

It’s a cat toy kit, so there’s a mouse and a ball as well that I will try to make. We shall see how it goes, but it’s not too bad for a first attempt!
